RE: Response - Adequacy Review. Technical Revision 17
Coal Basin Mines Permit C -81 -017.
Enclosed please find material for a new Appendix, designated IV -C-
3, to be inserted in Volume 7 of the approved permit (C -81 -017) for
the Coal Basin Mines. The appendix includes materials relating to
the mine drainage treatment system which is the subject of
Technical Revision 17.
The materials in the appendix are updated from the previous
submissions of October 11 and October 30, 1990 in response to your
adequacy letter of November 23, 1990. Any future materials related
to the mine water treatment system will also be placed in this
appendix.
As to our specific responses to your adequacy review:
- A design for the ditch leading to the 001 ponds is
included in Attachment E to the submittal of October 30,
found in the appendix.
- II- B- 7 -Att. 6 -18 has been revised to reflect the fact
that three 18 -inch CMP's serve as the emergency spillway
of pond 020. The revised design should be placed in the
permit at Vol. 3 -A, II- B- 7- Att.6 -18.
- The primary spillway(s) of the 001 pond(s) are 18" dia.
CMP culverts, as indicated by II- B- 7- Att.6 -10. The
emergency spillways are riprapped trapezoidal channels,
which measure 10 ft. wide, two ft. deep.
- No additional construction is planned for the spillways
of the 001 ponds.
In the 020 pond, Mid - Continent does propose to install
