SI,OPE GEUMETRY
The fill itself w:Lll involve appr_oxi-
:nately 400, 000 cubic yards of materials, %•:hick Grill be placed
on an area of slightly over. 10 acres. Preli_Y.znary cross-sections
for the fill 'nave been drawn by Mid-Continent Resources . The
maximum fill heigl-tshown on these cross-sections was roughly
60 feet. This value wa:3 selected for purposes of analysis,
since the highest- slope can be expected to have the least factor
of safety.
It is our understanding that the fill-
will classify as a Valley Fill under regulation of the Office of
Surface .dining (OSM) . However, it is also our understanding that
the underdrain and filter layer require:-aents of this classification
will be waived, due to the relatively good dra:_:-+ase conditions
which will exist in the fill area. Therefore, the effects of the
underd~bin and Filter ac,:e no considered in our stability a,Za?.y-
sis .
The OSM regulations specify a r:aximam
slope angle of 2--horizontal to 1 -vertic)!- for fill. slopes . The
regulations also stale that a slope steeper_ than 2.8-horizontal
to 1-vertical e ?:eyed into rock at the toe, or be provided with
a rock toe ;buttress. It is o.ir unders`ca;»ing, however, that slopes
steeper. than 2.8 : 1, but no steeper than 2 : 1 may b.e permitted with-
out the toe buttressing, providing the slope safety factor is
sufficiently high. Out stability analysis was performed for face
slopes of 2.8: 1, 2. 5 : 1, and 2 :1, in order to provide a range of
stability val•aes.
The preliminary slope sections provi3e,3
to Lincoln-DeVor.e show<-.d two terraces, or benches, on the face
of the GO foot high s1op.. These terraces we. e located roughly
-4-
