Mid-Continent Resources, Inc.
PRODUCERS OF THE FAMOUS COAL BASIN COKING COAL
MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES,INC. 201 Centennial Street
Suite 406 Telephone:
625 PLAINFIELD ROAD-SUITE 220 P
WILLORBROOK, ILLINOIS 60521 Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81601 (303)945-4958
February 23 , 1990
074
Mike Long
Director, Coal Program VLe Mr1%
Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Bldg.1313 2 6 13gp
Denver,Sherman
RE: Water Treatment Plant
Dear Mr. Long:
Technical Revision No. 12 , issued to Mid-Continent Resources for
Permit # C- 81 -017 on October 12, 1989, approved an alternate mine
drainage treatment system, with use of the 016 ponds for back-up.
Mid-Continent has done a great deal of work and spent substantial
money in attempting to implement the plan described in our
application for TR-12 . The necessary infrastructure for the plant
system is in place, and has been since December of 1989.
I regret to say that we have experienced serious difficulties with
the manufacturer of the plant, H 0 Engineering, and at this time
the plant has not been either mannactured or installed at our mine
site. The (former) owner of H 0 has advised us that the company
is unable to deliver the plan and has, in fact, gone out of
business.
The present treatment system, namely a three-pond series, to which
guar gum is added to promote settling, has proven to be very
effective since last August. Attached please find a report on the
ponds by Lew Thompson, Mid-Continent Environmental Coordinator.
Infrastructure
Mid-Continent had identified the following tasks as necessary to
prepare for installation of the water treatment plant. Mid-
Continent completed work, preparatory to plant installation, by
December 19, 1989. Since that time, we have been awaiting the
arrival of the plant for project completion.
1. Mid-Continent Resources, Work Completed:
