Stevens
Senior Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division -
215 Centennial Bldg.
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO
Dear Mr. Stevens:
Re: Diversion Ditch Design(s) - Sutey & Rock Tunnel Areas
The Mined Land Reclamation Division wrote Mid-Continent earlier this vear to say that,
under an agreement with the Office of Surface Mining, drainage and diversion ditches for
coal waste piles must be sufficient to pass a 100 year 24 hour storm event. The Division had
previously reviewed designs for adequacy to pass a 10 year-24 hour event.
In accordance with the directive of the MLRD, Mid-Continent has reviewed ditch design
for the Sutey Refuse Disposal Area and the Rock Tunnel Disposal Area.
Scott Jones, P.E.. after review of the relevant ditch designs, finds that all of the existing
ditches and culverts will safely pass a 100 year-24 hour event with a minimum freeboard of
.3', as required by 4.05.3 (6)(b). The calculations used in making this determination are
enclosed.
These calculations should be included in App. II-B-7 Att. 4 & Att. 5 of the approved permit.
Yours truly,
Diane Delaney
J
Mid-Continent Resources
