-2-
The Division of Minerals and Geology as well as the Mined Land
Reclamation Board have no jurisdiction over the post mining
ownership of the Mid-Continent properties. Conceptually, we
agree that the ecosystem fragmentation which would result from
the subdivision proposal is undesirable. This Division would
certainly support a land exchange agreement between the Forest
Service and Mid-Continent. However, this process must not
detract from the funding or timely completion of reclamation at
the mine site.
Thank you for your interest in the Coal Basin matter. Please
feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments.
Sincerely,
X Steven G. Renner
Coal Program Supervisor
CC: Michael Long, Director
Luke Danielson, Board Member
M: \scmcr
