Coal Basin Questions4
PRE - LAW DISTURBANCE
Q. What about the property behind the coke ovens near Redstone. Was that ever part of
the permit:
A. This area was never part of the MCR Coal Basin Permit. However, under
Colorado's Inactive Mine Reclamation Program if mine related problem exists the
program can investigate and abate abandoned mines which pose a public health and
safety problem. The area will be investigated to see if pre-law mining activities have
caused a safety or environmental problem. If the problem is related to past mining
activities it will be eligible for reclamation under the Inactive Mine Program.
Q. What about the pre-law (pre-1977) disturbance at the Coal Basin Mine?
A. The Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program is working with the Coal staff to
determine areas which were mined prior to 1977 and may be eligible for reclamation
under this program.
For more information: Steve Renner - (303) 866-3567
