3 .2 Coal Basin Seam or L-Saari (formmer 1-:4ine)
The former 1-Mine is operated by Mid-Continent in the
Coal Basin seam or the B-seam, the lower of the two principal coal
seams mined by Mid-Continent, in Coal Basin, near the village of
Redstone, Pitkin County, State of Colorado; at the west end of the
Elk Mountain Range.
The former 1-Mine is a slopes-type mine which enters the
coal seam at the outcrop at an elevation of approximately 10, 000
msl. Multiple entries constitutes the slopes section of 1-Mine.
The slopes entries were progressively developed down-dip as the
mining sections to the right and left (north and south, generally
along the strike of the coal seam) of the slope entries were
developed and mined out. Presently the slope entries extend
approximately 7, 000 feet down-dip, and there are approximately six
old, mined out sections bordering each side of the slope entries.
The last mining activity in the former 1-Mine mining
section was the 103 advancing longwall panel mined off of and to
the north of the slope entries. Following the first (the 101)
advancing longwall panel development and mining, subsequent layout
and development of mining activities in this coal seam were
changed.
3 .3 Dutch Creek Seam or M-Seam (2-Mine)
The former 2-Mine is operated by Mid-Continent in the
Dutch Creek seam or the M-seam. This is the upper of the two coal
seams presently being mined by Mid-Continent in Coal Basin.
The former 2-Mine is a slopes-type mine which enters at
the outcrop of the coal seam at an elevation of approximately
10, 437 feet msl. Multiple entries constitute the slopes section of
2-Mine. The slope entries were progressively developed down-dip as
the mining sections to the right and left (North and South,
generally, along the strike of the coal seam) of the slope entries
were developed and mined out. Presently, the slope entries extend
approximately 7, 400 feet down-dip, and there are approximately six,
old, mined out sections bordering the north side and three, old,
mined out sections, bordering the south side of the slope entries.
Presently, the last mining activity in the former 2-Mine
mining sections are the 211 and 212 advancing longwall panels mined
off of and to the right of the slope entries.
All of the foregoing active workings are accessed via
the RTP. The RTP provides personnel ingress and egress, the
conduit for power and other mechanical systems, ventilation, and an
entry for conveyering cut coal from the mine.
Mines Sealing $ 75.1711 D R A F T
MSHA Modification - 3 - 13-Nov-92
