I have been able to locate only one copy of the
map, therefore I am enclosing photocopies of the pertinent portion
of the map.
The first copy shows the refuse pile and the dates of construction.
On the second copy, I have noted some landmarks, and outlined the
area of the pile which is experiencing failures. As the ma
indicates, the potential project area lies within the pre-law
construction area of the refuse pile.
The area experiencing failures is about 350 feet wide (east to
west) , and extends about 90 feet to the south, up slope. The
current slope angle in this area is about 1.5H:1V. The area is
characterized by what appears to be a series of small rotational
failures. Surficial bulging at the toe of the slope, and failure
Of old cribbing adjacent to the drainage ditch at the base of the
Pile are observable. Minor seepage along the toe of the slope has
been observed. Although there is some growth on the face of the
Pile in this area, minimal topsoil is observed. My general
impression is that the failures are not deep seated, but rather are
surficial in nature as the material tries
slope. to overcome the steep
Failure of the pile into the adjacent Coal Creek could adversely
impact environmental resources in the area, and, dependent upon
stream flow conditions, could pose a danger to human health and
safety, should damming of Coal Creek occur.
I would be happy to put together a reclamation plan or other job
specifications should you desire,
CC:. , Jim MCArdle..:.
Cheryl Li`iden
