At least three samples from each of these locations should be collected and analyzed
before any tracer is brought on site. Each round of sampling should be separated by
at least two weeks. Also, several rainwater samples, and a few snow samples should
be collected and analyzed.
4.3 Tracer Inoculation
The tracer should be transported to the site only after the background sampling is
complete. The best means of distributing the bromide evenly throughout the entire
mine will be by spraying a solution of it on the walls and ceilings of all the tunnels
before the mine has been filled with water. By spraying the bromide solution on the
walls and ceiling it will be introduced gradually as the water fills the lower parts of the
underground workings. This procedure will avoid developing high tracer
concentrations in the mine water and eliminate the need to mix the water after the
mine has flooded because the tracer will already be very well distributed throughout
key areas of the mine. The proposed distribution of tracer by applying a spray is a
well established procedure for inoculation.
The areas selected for tracer inoculation are the main haulage levels along the south
western portion of workings. Principally, these areas include tunnels along the
Brenneman vein and the American Tunnel. These areas were chosen because they
are located in what is expected to be the most downgradient portion of the mine once
sunny\wp\traci\2251\Workplan.693 10
Hal siman HYDRO-SEARCH
