August 1994 -4- 933-2713.003
4.0 HYDROGEOLOGY
4.1 Field Activities
4.1.1 Piezometer Installation
Piezometers were installed in five of the seven boreholes to allow water level monitoring.
Two-inch diameter polyvinylchloride (PVC) piezometers were installed in boreholes BH-1, BH-
2, BH-3, BH-5, and BH-6. Piezometers were not installed in boreholes BH-lA and BH-4
because they were located in the middle of a roadway and the creek, respectively. Boreholes
BH-lA and BH-4 were drilled principally to obtain geologic data.
Piezometers were completed using 10-feet of screen which was generally placed adjacent to
sandy gravel lenses. A sand pack was placed in each hole. The sand pack extended from 5 feet
below the bottom of the screen to 8 feet below ground surface. Table 1 presents the piezometer
installation data.
Groundwater in BH-3 exhibited flowing artesian conditions after piezometer installation. Water
flowed from BH-3 approximately 1.5 feet above the ground after completion. The presence of
flowing artesian conditions in the BH-3 sandy gravel zone indicates that it is not hydraulically
connected to the sandy gravel zone in BH-2, which did not exhibit flowing artesian conditions.
At the end of the field investigation, the piezometer in BH-3 was removed and the borehole was
backfilled.
The water table elevation is shown in Table 1.
Golder Associates
