August 1994 -6- 933-2713.003
4.2.2 Results
The slug test analysis for wells A-1 (BH-5), A-2 (BH-6), B-1 (BH-1) and B-2 (BH-2) are
presented in Appendix B, and the results are summarized in Table 2.
In some cases the slug test data did not fall on a clearly definable straight line or it was possible
to fit more than one straight line to the data. Where the data did not fall on a clearly definable
straight line, judgment was used to determine a fit which would provide a hydraulic conductivity
value which best reflected the formation. For example, the very early data probably reflect the
properties of the sand pack; the very late data often are at the limit of the transducer resolution.
Very early and late data are generally not included in the analysis.
Table 2 provides 'best estimates' of hydraulic conductivity for each piezometer. Where two
lines were fitted to the data, the 'best estimate' is either the average of the two results, or the
one considered to be most representative of the formation.
The two analysis methods often gave similar results for a given test, despite their differing
assumptions about confining conditions. The similarity in results provides a high degree of
confidence in the hydraulic conductivity values.
The rising head results for B-l(BH-1) did not fall on a clearly definable straight line, and
judgement could not reasonably be used to approximate a straight line. Accordingly, rising head
data for B-1 (BH-1) were not used in determining a representative hydraulic conductivity for the
Cement Creek sediments. This has no significant effect on the results obtained or the conclusion
drawn.
The best estimate of hydraulic conductivity of 4.9 x 10 -5 cm/s for the sandy gravel formation
is the average of the best estimates for piezometers A-1 (BH-5), A-2 (BH-6) and B-1 (BH-1).
Based on the slug test results, the hydraulic conductivity of the sandy gravel ranges from 3.4
x 10' cm/s to 2.8 x 10' cm/s.
Golder Associates
