Clark January 28, 1994
10 Tymber Trail
Deland, FL 2724
RE: Sunnyside Gold Corporation Portal Closure.
Dear Mr. Clark:
Thank you for your interest in the activities at the Sunnyside Gold
Corporation near Silverton. Also, I apologize for the delay in
responding to you letter. I believe the major concern you stated
has to do with the company having to meet water quality standards
and the attempt to meet those standards by installing concrete
bulkheads. While the Division of Minerals and Geology shares your
concerns over the potential loss of future mining, we have no
control over the operator having to meet water quality standards.
The water quality requirements are the result of the Federal and
State Water Quality Control Acts. Also, compliance with water
quality standards established by those Acts is through the State
Water Quality Control Division in the Colorado Department of
Health, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The role of the Division of Minerals and Geology has been to act as
the agency responsible for the engineering review of the concrete
bulkheads that the company has proposed as a solution to their
water quality dilemma.
If you have any other questions that we can address about the
engineering end of the issue, please feel free to write us.
If you have additional concerns over the water quality standards I
recommend that you contact the Water Quality Control Division.
Sincer ly,
H. Bruce Humphries,
Minerals Program Supervisor
cc Allen Sorenson
