5TATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources P 74,
131 3 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver,Colorado 80203
Phone:(303)866-3567
FAX.(303)832-8106
DEPARTMENT OF
MEMO NATURAL
RESOURCES
May 27, 1997
Roy Romer
Governor
TO: Kent Gorham
James S Lochhead
Executive Director
FROM: Steve Renner-. Michael B Long
" Division Director
RE: Coal Basin Mine
Below is the legal description and the various acreages which you
have requested for the Coal Basin Mine.
The legal description is accurate, while the acreages are somewhat
fluid. Until about two years ago, the mine property was about
evenly split between Federal and Private ownership. At that time,
the Forest Service began to acquire some of the private holdings
through a series of land exchanges. It is my understanding that
now all but 405 acres is Federal property.
The acreages for disturbed area and affected area come directly
from the permit document. These areas equal the total permitted
area, and the life of mine acreage as well.
Please note that this site has had its permit revoked and bond
forfeited. The Division is in the process of accomplishing
reclamation through contractors. No further revisions to the
permit are contemplated.
LEGAL DESCRIPTION
T9S, R89W, Portions of Sections 31, 32
T10S, R89W, Portions of Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16,
17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 30
T10S, R90W, Portions of Sections 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14, 23 , 24, 25
T9S, R90W, Portions of Section 36
ACREAGES
Disturbed: 333 Permitted: 11,386
Affected: 11,386 Federal: 10,981
Life of Mine: 11,386 Private: 405
