Kuekes
Sopris Ranger District
620 Main Street
Carbondale, Colorado 81623
Re: Coal Basin Roads
Dear Tom:
I am writing to express our support for keeping the Coal Basin roads open. It is my impression that a
substantial majority of people in Redstone share this view. Surely, the Coal Basin roads are in far better
shape than most of the jeep roads throughout the state. I think that tearing out the culverts is
counterproductive to the public interest unless one assumes that the public's interest is best served by
keeping the public out.
I did accompany the tour through Coal Basin on Saturday,July 5, 1997. 1 can relate that it was everyone's
preliminary impression that we would like to see the roads saved. This, of course, is subject to our hearing
the other side of whatever issues might be involved. There are quite a few people in town who have never
been beyond the wash plant and have no idea what a local treasure we have in Coal Basin.
Frankly, there are always some who want to take a fleeting shot at Mid-Continent and its owners despite
the merits of any proposals which might involve them. I am more interested in the future than in the past.
I would like to get educated. Thanks for considering my letter.
Sincerely,
eter A.
