r .
Attachment 1
From: "Herron, James" james.herron@state.co.us
Division of Minerals and Geology
To: " 'Bill.McKee@state.co.us"' Bill.MeKee@state.co.us
Water Quality Control Division
Date: 12/12/02 3 :03PM
Subject: Coal Basin 319 Grant - Interagency Contract #WQC0000279
Bill,
The Coal Basin 319 Nonpoint Source project in Pitkin County needs an extension
on the grant contract. As you are aware, due to the drought in 2002, we were
not able to proceed with the high elevation revegetation treatments that were
planned, which would have used up the 319 funds remaining in this contract. We
have also obtained additional grant funds from the FY 2002 EPA award which
will supplement the effort to establish vegetation and stabilize the
outslopes. We will proceed with a new contract for the FY 02 funds when they
become available.
I am formally requesting and extension of the Coal Bain 319 contract to June
30, 2005 . That will allow for two fall seasons in 2003 and 2004 to conduct
the needed vegetation treatments, assuming fairly normal precipitation
conditions with some fall rain and/or snowpack. EPA Region VIII has reviewed
and approved the revised project plan and extended schedule.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 303-866-3813.
Jim Herron
Nonpoint Source Projects Supervisor
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
CC: "Renner, Steve" sqr@dmq-xl.state.co.us
