United States Forest Sopris P.O. Box 248
@ Department of Service Ranger Carbondale, CO
Agriculture District 81623
Reply to 2720
Mid-Continent Resources
Date September 21, 1984
r-
RECEIVED
George Wear
Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. OCT 0 41984
201 Centennial St.
Suite 406 MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVIS10P1
Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 C0I0. Dept.
L of Natural Resources
Dear George:
This is to document the conclusions reached during the site visit to Huntsman
Ridge with MCR, Inc. and Forest Service representative on September 6, 1984.
The major decision which was agreed to was to drop the application for a new
road alignment on National Forest lands going up to MCR, Inc. fee lands on
top of Huntsman Ridge. Instead, the existing special use road will be
reconstructed as needed to accommodate the drilling equipment MCR, Inc.
will be using on top. No additional permit will be required. It was also
agreed that prior to reconstruction, MCR, Inc. would discuss planned improve-
ments with a US Forest Service Engineer and agree on 1) drainage and culvert
requirements 2) surfacing requirements (if any) and 3) switchback widening.
Upon completion of improvements, the Forest Service would again be notified
for a post-work inspection of the road.
On September 12, 1984, the pre-work site visit with a US Forest Service
Engineer was made. Reconstruction and rehabilitation requirements were
discussed and agreed to on site with the MCR, Inc. Engineer Tom Johansen.
It was agreed that the Forest Service would be notified prior to work at
one particular switchback so a US Forest Service Engineer could be on site
during reconstruction activities. US Forest Service agreed to provide
MCR, Inc. with culvert size requirements based on a US Forest Service
drainage analysis. This information was phoned to you on September 14,
1984.
While I am displeased with the condition of the existing road and the
unauthorized work which took place last spring, I appreciate the cooperative
attitude shown by you and other MCR, Inc. representatives during our recent
 0 O / _ _.Q . — - -
