using conventional rotary drilling methods and drilling mud as the circulation medium to depths ranging from 1,300 <br />to 1,600 feet. <br />(3) Mine Facilities <br />(a) A narrative and maps to meet the standards prescribed in 2.10, describing the location, <br />construction modification use maintenance and removal of mine facilities in the permit area including all <br />buildings structures and utility corridors. <br />iI=3OWOy <br />The existing Foidel Creek Mine surface facilities consist of building structures, material handling system, utilities, <br />and surface areas as shown on Map 24, Surface Facilities. Previously disturbed areas within the surface facilities <br />area may be leveled and then utilized for additional storage. <br />Buildings <br />The original mine administrative office, a 60 x 36 foot modular trailer structure, was modified to allow for the cold <br />weather and heavy snow -load of the area. That administrative structure contained eleven offices for the mine staff. <br />A second administrative office was subsequently added for mine staff. The 36 x 56 foot trailer was located west of <br />the original administrative office. The trailer contained a bathroom and was hooked up to the existing septic and <br />water systems. Electrical power was supplied to the trailer by a transformer located on the east side of the trailer. <br />The location is shown on Map 24, Surface Facilities <br />As the mine expanded, a new office/bathhouse complex was built to replace the modular trailers, as indicated on <br />Map 24, Surface Facilities. The office/bathhouse building is of concrete block construction and has dimensions of <br />approximately 200 x 75 feet. Approximate height of the building is 15 feet. The building was placed on a <br />reinforced spread- footer foundation and has a reinforced concrete slab floor. The bathhouse /office facility replaced <br />the foriner bathhouse trailers, and was constructed adjacent to the operations center as indicated on Map 24 <br />In order to evaluate the existing septic system and leach field for future expansion at the mine a percolation test was <br />conducted. Approximately six, 4 -inch diameter holes, 30 -48 inches deep were augured for the percolation test. <br />After the test was completed, the cuttings were placed back in the hole. Also, an eight -foot deep backhoe pit was <br />dug so a soil profile could be obtained. After the backhoe pit was logged, it was backfilled. It should be noted that <br />the activity as shown on Map 24, Surface Facilities, would be within the boundary of the existing sediment control <br />system. The existing water and sewer systems were found to be adequate and were utilized for the new facility. <br />The former trailers were removed during the summer of 1993, with a portion of the resulting open area becoming <br />part of the parking lot. Approximately 3,000 cubic yards of material was removed during excavation for the <br />foundations and slab, and approximately 400 yards of compacted backfill material was used for the foundations and <br />slab. In addition, some 850 tons of gravel was compacted beneath the foundations and slab. No other excavation work <br />is planned. A limited amount of additional dirt-work included contouring of the parking lot area where the current <br />administration trailer and parking is located, and a possible widening of the access road by some 25 feet, should this <br />become necessary in the area of the new bathhouse facility. Water and sewer lines from the trailers were capped and <br />covered. <br />In 1995, another temporary office trailer with dimensions of 24 x 66 x 12 feet was leveled and blocked south of the <br />administration building. There were no water and sewer hook -ups, and a 40 -foot long buried conduit brought in <br />power from an existing transformer. The location is delineated on Map 24.
