Hickenlooper <br />Governor <br />Mike King <br />Executive Director <br />Dick Wolfe, P.E. <br />Director /State Engineer <br />The Division of Water Resources (DWR) has reviewed the above - referenced Lorencito Canyon Mine <br />permit renewal application received by the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) on May <br />9, 2012. The operator, New Elk Coal Company, LLC, is requesting renewal of the mining and reclamation <br />permit. Lorencito Canyon Mine is a surface coal mining operation located approximately 3 miles west of <br />Segundo on Highway 12 in Las Animas County. <br />According to the renewal application, this is the third five -year permit renewal at the site and the <br />current permit status is permanent cessation (reclamation only) with 95% of the disturbance area <br />reclaimed. This office has no comments concerning the proposed renewal application at this time. <br />Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this application.
