June 4, 2012 C- 2009 - 087 /Peabody Sage Creek Mine JDM <br />The lower sump was holding water and discharging at the time of the inspection. Construction was being <br />conducted at the Lower Sump to revise the size of the embankments, primary, and emergency spillways to more <br />adequately reflect the approved designs of the sump. The remaining tasks invole the completion of the emergency <br />spillway, raising the inlet of the primary spillway, and finish grading and reseeding of the area of disturbance <br />during construction. <br />Lower Sump <br />GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLANCE: <br />The Peabody Sage Creek Mine was permitted in 2010 with initial construction activities beginning in May 2011. <br />At the time of the inspection, topsoil salvaging and storage is complete. The initial mining process has begun with <br />a continuous miner working to construct the four portal entries at the portal site. At the time of the inspection the <br />entries are near the first crosscut of the workings into the face of the highwall. Activities are limited with <br />permitted work in and around the facilities area with bathhouse construction, portal activities and Lower Sump <br />work.
