(Page 3)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M ;;__378
INSPECTION DATE 7-27-93 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS
also apply to these locations. These are the least accessible of the proposed bulkhead
locations; it will require careful planning and precise execution for installation of the
plugs, particularly in terms of mixing and pouring of the concrete, for these plugs to meet
the performance standards included in the design. This inspection was the final step in the
process for partial approval of TR-14 regarding the Brenneman-Sunnyside connection bulkheads.
Based on observations made the division can issue the partial approval requested with the
requirement that the long-sections previously discussed demonstrate sufficient tunnel wall
irregularity, and with the concept of a pre-pour inspection, PE certification, and other
applicable items included in the adequacy review correspondence for TR-14 also included as
conditions to approval.
Terry Tunnel Bulkhead Location
Observations at this location were similar to those documented for the American Tunnel in
terms of geologic structure, etc. In addition, maximum line of site into the tunnel from the
proposed bulkhead location was observed. This has a bearing on plug stability under
earthquake loading in terms of acceleration of the impounded water against the bulkhead.
Observations confirm that the tunnel deviates from a straight line, thus limiting the line
of site distance.
Other Observations-Sunnyside Basin
Reclamation in Sunnyside Basin, including the back-filled Lake Emma hole, was observed from
a vantage point on the south-facing slope of Sunnyside Basin. The groundwater diversions
proposed in TR-15 would be constructed down-gradient from mine related disturbance, including
the Washington and Sunnyside Pits. The exposed pit walls are dry. The diversions would be
excavated, however, into native, or essentially undisturbed alluvium and colluvium. The
question remains as to whether the intercepted ground water would be "process" water, in
terms of clean water regulations.
I & E Contact Address cc: Jim Stevens, DMG
NAME Larry Perino
OPERATOR Sunnyside Gold Corporation
STREET P.O.
