J.
A design for, and calculations as the required size for a berm at
the 016 topsoil pile, have been included with Attachment 1 for
placement in the permit. The topsoil pile itself is well
vegetated, and surrounded on all but the west side by a well
vegetated and large area of undisturbed, fairly level ground.
Also, an area of rocks forms a natural berm near the base of the
topsoil pile.
our objective in placing the berms along the west side is to ensure
that any run-off from the west side of the topsoil pile is
directed into the sediment pond. The road already slopes toward
the pond, so the berm is essentially an added assurance.
We believe any runoff would be successfully directed to the pond,
and that the sampling procedure discussed previously for a total
containment berm concept, which is in lieu of a sediment pond,
would not apply or be required in this case. A diagram showing the
berms, and calculations as to appropriate sizing, are included in
Attachment 1.
For that reason, we , question whether a small area exemption is
actually required here, and believe that sampling for storm events
(proposed in the original submittal) would not be necessary, as the
runoff is going to the sediment pond, which is sampled.
Yours truly, \\
Diane Delaney
Mid-Continent Resources
3
