Reclamation Plan Supplement
Roads
I. Road Reclamation
The concept to be applied for reclamation of roads, including former haul roads, access
and light use roads, is:
The objectives will be, to the extent possible, to restore natural drainage patterns
and diffuse flows over the road system. The objective of road reclamation will be
restoration of natural drainage patterns.
Culverts will be removed or otherwise disengaged during the next several years
unless required to maintain access for necessary maintenance, reclamation and
monitoring. Ditches will be filled in.
The crest of the fill slope will be reduced, and material thus excavated will be
placed against the toe of the cut, utilized to fill in the inside ditch. In this way, the
base of the cut will be moderated and stabilized, and the road narrowed.
Drainage on the road system will be directed by means of rolled dips, swa/es,
water bars. Rock rip/rap may be used, where necessary, to stabilize dips and
swa/es. In some cases, depending upon ground conditions, the road may be
gently outsloped as a means of flow diffusion.
However, well vegetated cut and fill slopes which appear stable will not be
disturbed.
The remaining road surfaces will be ripped and seeded, and cut and fill slopes
will be seeded and mulched. The exception(s) would be road surfaces or cut
slopes in rock which will not support vegetation, or areas previously vegetated
which do not require further seeding. Seeding will be done in late fall.
Timber slash may be used to stabilize seeded slopes, and otherwise may be
employed in erosion gullies.
A road log detailing the specific steps to be taken for each segment of the road
system will be submitted to the Division for approval prior to implementation;
changes to the road log will be only as approved by the Division.
Vol. 10 07/18/93
Chapter 1(S) First Supplement
1
