4 <br /> Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. <br /> Road Reclamation at Entire Coal Basin Complex <br /> The enclosed maps at a scale of 1 "=400 ' incorporate information <br /> from many sources to derive at the proposed reclamation plan for <br /> the roads . This information includes : <br /> 1 ) Geo-Hydro Consulting comprehensive report on road conditions <br /> compiled in 1983. Areas of avalanche paths and potential cut or <br /> fill slope instability were identified . <br /> 2) Morrison-Knudsen road drainage plans compiled in 1979 . These <br /> maps contain all drainage areas , culverts and road stations . Later , <br /> water bars , berms and check dams were added . <br /> 3) Site knowledge of problem erosion areas such as culvert <br /> outlets , etc . <br /> 4) Road reclamation slope stability report by Greg Lew,cki in <br /> January of 1994 , which proposes certain reclamation cross-sections , <br /> depending on cut and fill slope road conditions . <br /> The maps show all items described above. Using the Geo-Hydro report <br /> and site pictures , an attempt has been made to map road sections <br /> according to what reclamation cross-section they would receive . <br /> Many of the road sections have not been designated for a particular <br /> cross-section since it is necessary to conduct field verif;cat ion . <br /> Most culverts can probably be removed , with the exception of some <br /> of the very large culverts handling the perennial streams . The <br /> question of how to pass water from above the road to below while <br /> minimizing erosion and long-term maintenance is the single most <br /> important concern of the plan . This must be done on a case by case <br /> basis for each road section , and it is not possible to lay out <br /> these plans in detail without site study . <br /> The following discussion on the proposed plans for road reclamation <br /> is taken from the January 1994 slope stability report . <br /> The geomorphology of the roads and the surrounding area is very <br /> active. There is no way to completely eliminate erosion in these <br /> areas , but with good planning, the areas can be restored to a <br /> relatively stable condition for both slope stability and hydrology . <br />
