- The material, when mixed into a liquid slurry, shall pass a fre liquid quality
control test: Liquids separate from fibrous solids, no greater than one inch 0")
in one (1) minute, as measured on a standard test board;
The matrix, when dry, shall not dissolve or disperse upon rewetting;
- The matrix, when dry, shall have a minimum thickness of 1/8", and a maximum
thickness of 1/4';
- The matrix shall have no holes >1 mm in size;
The matrix shall have no gaps between the product and the sail;
- The matrix shall have a rninimum water holding capacity of approximately ten
times its dry weight;
The matrix shall have no germination or growth inhibiting components and
shall not form a crust which inhibits water infiltration;
The matrix shall be comprised of materials which are 100%biodegradable and
non-toxic to plant, animal and aquatic species.
The BFM shall be supplied and,installed by CONTRACTOR according to
manufactures specifications, and in accordance with the specified mixing
procedures. CONTRACTOR shall demonstrate "free liquid"test to PROJECT
MANAGER upon request.
The BFM will be spray applied for aerially applied at a rate of 3,500 pounds per acre.
The BFM shall be applied in successive layers until the required co ?rage is
achieved, and until the required 100% coverage of all exposed soil is attained. The
BFM shall not be applied to.standing water nor within 48 hours of predicted rain or
snow, nor immediately after a rain or snow event.
CONTRACTOR shall provide PROJECT MANAGER with appropriate documentation
of laboratory and other testing to ensure the product complies with the specifications
outlined in this Invitation for Bid. Such documentation, and a material sample, shall
be provided to PROJECT MANAGER no later than seven(7) days prior to initiating
application operations.
If application consistent with manufacturers specifications can be demonstrated,
aerial application of the BFM may be permitted. Aerial application of the BFM may be
approved by the PROJECT MANAGER only after a test application of the BFM on a
selected slope is accomplished. In order to gain approval, application of the BFM
from the air must be no less effective in coverage than that coverage which is
obtained by application from 4 hydro mulch unit.
