Revegetation may take place at the completion of <br /> work at an individual opening if the CONTRACTOR so desires. <br /> Fertilizers <br /> Immediately prior to seedbed preparation, fertilizer shall be uniforrr;;y applied over <br /> the areas designated for seeding and immediately incorporated into the soil by tilling <br /> methods as discussed below. Qommercial fertilizer shall be applied at the rate of 300 <br /> pounds per acre. Manure shall be applied at the rate of 30 tons per acre. <br /> Seedbed Preparation <br /> The seedbed shall be firm. Trash, weeds and other debris that will interfere with <br /> seeding operations shall be removed or disposed of as approved by the PROJECT <br /> MANAGER. <br /> On sites where equipment can operate, the seedbed shall be adequately loosened <br /> (four to six inches 0" to 6") deep) and smoothed. Chiseling, discing, harrowing or <br /> cultipacking may be required. Work shall be done on the contour where practicable. <br /> On sites where equipment cannot operate, the seedbed shall be hand-raked or <br /> otherwise prepared by hand by scarifying to a minimum depth of one inch (1") to <br /> provide a roughened surface so that seed will stay in place. <br /> Seedbed preparation shall be 'Suspended when soil moisture conditions are not <br /> suitable for the preparation of a satisfactory seedbed as determined by the PROJECT <br /> MANAGER. <br /> Seeding <br /> The designated seed mixture shall be sown uniformly on the prepared areas. <br /> Seeding shall not be done if the ground is frozen. Some areas, such as rock <br /> outcrops, etc., within the work limits may no-,.be designated to be ser�ded. <br /> Drill Seeding. In all areas where practicable and where the area to be seeded <br /> exceeds one (1) acre, seeding,shall be performed with a grassland drill with depth <br /> bands and seedbox agitator and equipped with either packing wheels or a <br /> cultipacker. The drill shall be capable of properly handling the seed on all slopes <br /> designated for this method. Seed shall be drilled across the slope, where <br /> practicable. The distance between drilled furrows shall not be more than twelve (12) <br /> inches. Seed shall be planted one-quarter inch (1/4") to one-half inch (1/2") deep. <br /> Broadcast Seeding. Seeding shall be performed using hand-operated or machine <br /> seeders whereby dry seed shall be applied in prescribed quantities Luniformly on <br /> specified areas.
