Messrs. Jim Herron, Brian Munson
July 12, 1983
Page 2
II. SOIL
Soil samples were taken on 6/29/83 (report forthcoming) along the con-
veyor belt right of way at 500' intervals from the tunnel to the belt
exchange and then six additional points were taken in the cut and fill
area of the stockpile (see map) . These samples were oaken down through
"B" horizon material. (See also Mine Permit Vol. 6, Sec. III-G Soils.)
i
f
III. VEGETATION
i
A description of the vegetation was covered in our Mine Permit Applica-
tion C-017-81 (see Vol. 6, Sec. III-H; see also App. III-H-I and Map
f III-H-I) .
IV. WILDLIFE
The proposed conveyor belt will not affect the wildlife in Coal Basin,
nor does it transect any deer or elk migration routes or lie close to
any fawning or calving areas. No rare or endangered species are known
to exist in this area.
V. PERMIT BOUNDARY
This area is inside our present permit boundary ..nd is included in our
USFS land exchange. About 40 percent of the lard affected is now USFS
land, but will shortly be Mid-Continent land. tia.: do not know the exact
date, but it is estimated it will be completed i, -thin one year; in the
meantime, we have applied for a special use pern _-t (application sub-
mitted 6/28/83, copy included) . Contact, Mr. Bi .l Floyd, Carbondale
USFS office, 963-2266. He has personally inspec-ced tine area in question.
VI. RECLAMATION
All vegetation will be removed and all topsoil will be removed and
stockpiled (see typical cross-section and site map) ; all areas disturbed
during construction that will not be used during; operations will be
revegetated using the standard 8000' seed mix and straw mulch (copy
included) .
At the end of the "life of mine" operations, all structures will be
I removed and the land returned to A.O.C. The topsoil will be added in
4 the original amount surveyed. (See Soils Report.) Soil samples will
be taken during reclamation to determine amounts and types of fertili-
zer required to bring the soil back up to the o---iginal quality. The
8000' seed mix and straw mulch will be applied. This seed list (8000')
will be updated for each five-year permit perioi3 with approval by the
i
MLRD.
Note: Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. reserves the right not to return
its private lands to A.O.C. if they are appropriate to the approved
post-mining land use.
i
i
