S. Savage
RE: Vegetation Sampling Report for Coal Basin Mine (C-017-81 )
Pursuant to your request I ave reviewed the baseline vegetation sampling
results in the report prepa%d by Intermountain Soils for the proposed Sutey
refuse area, the proposed gas well road, and the proposed rock tunnel portal
at the Coal Basin Mines.
The sampling methodologies mployed are acceptable. The sample adequacy
determinations employed were conservative and yielded acceptable sampling
levels with the exception of woody plant density sampling for the Aspen
community of the Sutey prop rty, and the Spruce-Meadow community along the
proposed gas well road. (See Table 1 . ) Ten and twenty woody plant density
samples were taken at the Sutey Aspen community and Spruce-Meadow community
respectively. Woody plant density was not sampled at the Sutey Meadow
community or Meadow Referen e area. The Meadow community and Meadow Reference
Area were comparable for ve etative cover and herbaceous production at a 95%
statistical level of confidence.
I have included a compilation of parameter values in Table 1 for your
convenience.
/fw
Doc.
