Dept.of Natural Resources Mined Land Reclamation Division 423 Centennial Building 1313 Sherman Street Denver, CO 80203 Dear Jim: In accordance with Pa agraph 2. 08.4 of Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land R clamation Board for Coal Mining, a minor revision to Permit No.l C-017-81 (Coal Basin Mines) is requested with respect to the light use road system as now permitted. The Coal Basin Mine Permit Application addresses the Coal Basin light use road system in Volume 1, Chapter II, Section B.4 .c. (4) , Pages 58-59 and it is depicted on a map designated Exhibit II-B-5 and located in a map jacket in the rear of Volume 1. The request is to upgrade the approximately two (2) mile section extending from the #4 mine portal to the top of Huntsman Ridge as depicted in blue on the attached maps and to extend the system on the west side of the ridge by approximately one (1) mile as depicted in red on the attached maps. The upgrading and extension of these portions of the light use road system are required to provide access to the area above the current underground mining operations for subsidence monitoring, coal exploration and methane gas extraction activities. The upgrading project is required to bring that portion of the road up to the standards outlined in Paragraph 4.03. 3 of the MLRB Regulations. Primarily the work will consist of improving drain- age, installing culverts and graveling those sections that traverse alluvial deposits. The present actual road alignment is as shown on the large scale map as determined by a recent detailed map- reconnaissance. The new section of road is located entirely within the permit area and on land owned by fAi.d-Continent. It will average 7.5 percent grade and will not exceed a pitch grade of 10 percent for more than 300 feet within any consecutive 1,000 feet. Construction will be in accordance with the standards outlined in Paragraph 4. 03.3 of the MLRB Re ulations.
