Mid-Continent submitted a report concerning these
features in a letter dated October 25 , 1988.
On September 26 , 1989 , the area in which the surface cracks
had previously been noted was examined by Tom Johansen,
Chief Engineer, and m self . Other areas that could
potentially be affect d by subsidence were examined as well ,
specifically portions of the surface over longwall panels
102 , 103, 208 and 210 ( 103 and 210 are currently-active
panels) .
No new cracking was n ted during this examination , nor were
any definite subsiden e features of any kind . The cracks
described last fall had not enlarged , and in fact only
portions of the first crack could be found , much of it
having been filled in by surface wash or frost heaving. The
second crack has also been substantially filled and could
only be traced for about a third of its original exposure. A
pond located in the a cient slump block between this crack
and the nearest mined out area was nearly full , indicating
no additional crackin3 toward these old works.
The area will be reex mined during the 1990 summer field
season.
If you have any quest 'ons or require any further
information , please s advise.
ery trul y rs,
Bruce A.
