1989 Coal Basin Annual Bond Tracking - Vegetation
Sampling
Cover sampling was done on the old refuse pile on August 8, 1989. Ten 50m
transects were run on the ortion of the pile which was seeded before 1986.
Ten observations were made at each of 5 points on each transect with an
optical point frame.
Results
Results are summarized in he attached tables. Vegetative cover averaged
24.2% and woody plant dens ty averaged 267 stems per acre.
Comments
Data for areas seeded from)977 through 1985 is combined since the mine does
not know which areas were seeded when. There is quite a bit of difference
between vegetative cover on some of the areas of the refuse pile.
The cover success standa 4 for this area is based on reference area data,
which was 60.8% during pre 4ine sampling. Present vegetative cover is 56% of
the reference area cover dring the pre-mine year.
The woody plant density su cess standard for this area is 100 trees and 500
shrubs per acre. There ar approximately half this number of shrubs present
(267/acre) and virtually n trees (8 junipers/acre) .
9804F/scg
