Dept.of Natural Resources
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Coal Basin Mines Permit C-017-81
Condition No. 3 : Certification of Sediment Ponds
Dear Mr. Herron:
This letter attests to the certification of our sediment
pond as being built as designed.
There have been several changes and modifications to the
original design by Fleming in 1978 . Please refer to enclosed
Table II-B-App. 7, Att . 3-4 Revised Sedimentation Capacities--
1982 and Physical Survey of Sediment Ponds , Nov. 1983 update.
I believe a brief explanation might be in order concerning
each pond.
001 PREP PLANT 3 . 89 ACRES. 'With the reconstruction of the
access road with rock and gravel and installation of the new
1811 steel connecting pipe between ponds 2 and 3 , we believe
this system will be in excellent working order . The impact of
the new bin transfer point on this system will be very small
because the site is small and is mostly rock and gravel .
006 REFUSE S . 0. 25 ACRES. This pond was deepened and enlarged
in October, 1983 and the entire area above it , up to the conveyor
belt , was re-seeded and mulched, including the road. With a
good growing season in 1984 the area above this pond will be 100
percent revegetated.
007 REFUSE N. 1 . 39 ACRES. This pond was completely dug out in
October, 1983 and even tough it is slightly smaller than ori-
ginally constructed ( . 16 acre) , it is in series with 009, which
is some 1. 83 acres larger than design. The area above 007 will
be topsoiled, seeded and mulched, 100 percent , in 1984 .
