AUG 2 8 198'.,
INTEROFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
N41NED LAND
TO: Doug Bowman RECLAMATION DIVISION
FROM: Tom Johansen
SUBJECT: Sedimentation Ponds Inspection, July 1965
Date: August 9, 1985
On July 25,26 and 29, 1985 an inspection was made of
all Mid-Continent Resources' Coal Basin sedimentation ponds.
The inspection was made by Wesley Huff , Hydrologist and Tom
Johansen, P.E. , both experienced in ponds maintenance and
inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to ensure that the
structures were stable and hazard-free and to satisfy the
requirements of Rules 4.05.b(11) (c) and 4.05.9(10) (b) of the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division. The inspection
consisted of a visual examination of enbankments, spillways
and outlets; and measurement of water and sediment levels
and discharge volumes.
All ponds were accessible during the time of
inspection. The inspection included a walkaround
reconnaissance of embankments and spillways. Water levels
were measured based on past survey information.
Sedimentation levels were estimated based on a prodding
stick and knowledge of last cleanout date. Several ponds
were in the process of being cleaned or repaired following
an unusually severe spring and wet summer.
There are a total of 34 registered ponds within the
Coal Basin sedimentation control area. The attached table
summarizes the status of each at the time of inspection.
We certify that the Coal Basin mines site sedimentation
control ponds have been inspected to the best of our ability
and in accordance with inspection guidelines prepared by the
Colorado State Engineers office.
Sincerely, /
Wesley Huf, yd l ogi st
roa sen, P.
