INTEROFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
Date: May 11 , 1987
To: Doug Bowman
From: Scott Jones
Subject: Sedimentation Pond Inspection, Second Quarter,
1987
On May 11 , 1987, an inspection was made of all
Mid -Contintinent Resources Coal Basin Sedimentation Ponds.
The inspection was made by myself , a Registered Professional
Engineer in the State of Colorado. I have had over five
years experience in the design, construction and maintenance
of sedimentation ponds.
The purpose of this inspection was to ensure that all
of the ponds were stable and hazard free and to satisfy the
requirements of Rules 4.05.6 (11 ) (c) and 4.05.9(10) (b) of the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division. The inspection
consisted of a visual inspection of embankments, spillways
and outlets and measurement of water and sediment levels And
discharge volumes. Water levels are based on past survey
information. Sedimentation levels were estimated based on a
prodding stick and knowledge of the last clean-out date for
each pond.
During this inspection several ponds were observed to
be above the 60% sediment level . However, the dragline was
in operation, and these ponds were scheduled to be cleaned
in the near future. Overall , the ponds appeared to be in
good shape with no noticeable structural defects or other
irregularities. A detailed checklist is attached with this
memorandum.
Based on the above statements, I certify that the Coal
Basin mine site sedimentation ponds have been inspected to
the best of my ability anti are in accordance with the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Divisions Rules and
Regulations.
,lames Scott P.
