INTEROFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
Date : January 19 , 1988
• 4
To : John Turner
From: Scott Jones
Subject : Sedimentation Pond Inspection , First Quarter 1988
On January 18 , 1988 an inspection was made of all Mid-
Coi)tinent Resources , Inc. sedimentation ponds in Coal Basin and
at the loadout in Carbondale .
The purpose of this inspection was to ensure that all of the
ponds were stable and hazard free and to satisfy the requirements
of Rule 4 . 05 . 6 ( 11 ) ' c ) and 4 . 05 . 9 ( 10 ) ( 6) of the Colorado Mined
Lsnd Reclamation Division . The inspection consisted of a visual
inspection of embankments , spillways and outlets and a
measurement of water and sediment levels and discharge volumes .
hater levels are based on past survey information . Sedimentation
levels were based on a prodding stick and knowledge of the last
r 1 -:in--out date for each pond .
Heavy January snows along with thick ice made most
observations very difficult . None of the ponds at #3 , #4 and #5
Mines were inspected because the roads were not open . The ponds
that were accessible appeared to be in good shape. A detailed
check list for the ponds inspected is attached to this memo .
Scott Jones , P. E .
