Desian
The constructed diversion must adhere precisely to the design parameters as depicted in these
specifications and on the attached maps and cross sections. The cross section locations will be
staked in the field by PROJECT MANAGER prior to construction for reference purposes.
Measurement along the approximate centerline of the inner channel (Map 3, Dutch Creek
Diversion Design) indicates that the diversion will be approximately one thousand two hundred
sixty feet (1,260') in length. The overall gradient, or fall, of the diversion will be 6.8%.
Upon completion, the inner channel will vary in width at its crest from fourteen feet (14') to twenty
two feet (22'), with an average width of seventeen feet (17'). The depth of the inner channel will
be two feet (2'). Side slopes will be constructed as depicted on the cross sections. The inner
channel must be over excavated so that a minimum of two feet (2') of rock may be placed
immediately beneath and adjacent to the sides of the channel.
Upon completion the outer channel will vary between thirty and sixty feet (30' - 60') in width,
dependent upon location, with an average width of forty four feet (44'). The banks will vary
between five and thirty feet (5' - 30') in height, dependent upon location. Side slopes will be
constructed as depicted on the cross sections. The outer channel must be over excavated so
that a minimum of one foot (1') of rock materials may be placed under the base of the channel
outside of the inner channel.
Rock materials to be used to fill over excavated areas will be derived from excavation of the
diversion, and from the rock source area identified on Map 6, Potential Construction Sequence.
Rock materials to be salvaged and /or excavated for use will vary in size between cobbles and
boulders up to five feet (6) as measured along the longest axis. During filling of the over
excavated areas with rock materials, care must be exercised so that excessive rock is not
introduced into the diversion. The dimensions depicted on the cross sections must be achieved
upon completion of construction operations.
The east side of the southern most one hundred twenty feet (120') of the diversion must be
heavily armored by combining larger boulders with less coarse rock particles. This armoring will
need to be accomplished within both the inner and outer channels. Armoring of this area shall
achieve a minimum thickness of four feet (4') along the outer channel wall, and three feet (3') on
the inner channel wall and on the flat area which is formed between the top of the inner channel
and the base of the outer channel (see Typical Channel Cross Section, Map 3, Dutch Creek
Diversion Design).
Map 3, Dutch Creek Diversion Design; Map 4, Dutch Creek Diversion Cross Section Locations;
Cross Sections 1 through 23 depict the construction specifications.
Special Requirements
Throughout construction of the diversion, access to the upper portions of the Coal Basin Mines,
via the adjacent Road A, must be maintained. A minimum passable width of twenty two feet
(22') of Road A must be maintained at all times.
Dutch Creek must not be diverted into the diversion until construction is complete, and is
certified as such by the PROJECT MANAGER.
8
