These funds were to be used to construct the Dutch Creek Diversion
and complete associated reclamation at the Coal Basin Mine. The major portion of the
Dutch Creek Diversion was completed 1998. This initial construction cost $ 90,252.10.
Completion of the Project was accomplished in 1999. The work completed in 1999
associated with the Dutch Creek Diversion included final grading of much of the material
excavated from the northern portion of the Diversion, demolition of the Dutch Creek
Flume, topsoil placement along the east and west margins of the Diversion banks, and
revegetation of the fill areas located east and west of the Diversion.
Construction of the Diversion was planned for, and completed in, the mid-fall of 1998.
Construction was completed late in the year in order to take advantage of low stream
flows, and because ground water elevations typically fall late in the year. These low
water conditions minimize environmental impacts during construction, and reduce
construction complications due to dewatering and water treatment.
Final reclamation work was accomplished during performance of another Project in the
vicinity of the Diversion during the 1999 construction season. The remaining Diversion-
related work was included as part of another Project in order that the work could be
accomplished without incurring additional mobilization and demobilization costs. The
1999 Bid was structured so that the work associated with the Dutch Creek Diversion
could be accounted for independently from that work which is attributable to other pay
centers.
The remainder of the Dutch Creek Diversion grant ($18,097.92)was expended during the
1999 construction season. The account has been closed. All reclamation tasks associated
with the construction of the Dutch Creek Diversion have been completed.
C:\sgr\clbsn\dcdfunds
