STATE, OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources ppr4 W,
1313 Sherman St, Room 215
Denver,Colorado 80203
Phone (303)866-3567
FAX (303)832-8106
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
October 2, 1998 RESOURCES
MEMO Roy Romer
Governor
James S Lochhead
TO: Sue Griswold, Purchasing Executive Director
Michael B Long
Division Director
FROM: Steve Renner, Minerals and Geology
RE: Change Order, Coal Basin/Dutch Creek Diversion Bid Number PKA-9-424
Minerals and Geology requests permission to issue a change order to the above named project.
The change order will exceed the bid price by over twenty percent.
Completion of the Dutch Creek Diversion will result in construction of a large stream channel
which will isolate a portion of the Coal Basin Mine. It is necessary to import topsoil to the
isolated portion of the mine site in order to complete reclamation at that location. The topsoil
should be imported to the area prior to completion of the diversion channel in order to take
advantage of existing access. Upon completion of the diversion, access will become very
difficult, resulting in higher transportation costs.
Approximately 7,120 cubic yards of topsoil will be hauled and stockpiled to the east side of the
diversion prior to loss of access. The total cost will be approximately $21,000. This equates to
$2.95 per cubic yard, which is competitive with estimates quoted by other contractors. Sufficient
funds are available to complete this work.
Please contact me at (970) 250-5478 if you have questions regarding this request.
cc: Yvonne Brannon
Jim McArdle
