required to obtain adequate coverage as specified by the PROJECT MANAGER. <br /> Mulching <br /> Hay or straw mulch shall be applied uniformly at the rate of two (2) tons per acre over seeded <br /> areas. Hydro mulch shall be applied at the rate of one and a half (1 1/2) tons per acre. Mulch <br /> shall be applied to the designated areas immediately after seeding and not later than 24 hours <br /> after seeding has been performed. Mulching shall not be done when the wind velocity exceeds <br /> fifteen (15) miles per hour. <br /> Stabilizing Mulch <br /> On areas larger than one (1) acre a mulch crimper shall be used to stabilize or anchor the mulch <br /> into the soil after hay or straw mulch has been spread. The crimper shall be equipped with <br /> scrapers to keep the blades clean. Spacing of crimper blades shall not exceed nine inches (9") . <br /> On areas less than one acre crimping must be achieved by hand with a suitable tool, such as a <br /> spade, on 18" centers. <br /> Maintenance <br /> The CONTRACTOR shall maintain the areas until all work on the entire contract has been <br /> completed and accepted. Maintenance will consist of the repair of area damaged by erosion, <br /> wind, fire or other causes. Such areas shall be repaired to reestablish the condition and grade <br /> of seedbed and shall be refertilized, reseeded, remulched and/or reestablished as directed by <br /> the PROJECT MANAGER. <br /> 20.4 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> If revegetation is not included as a separate bid item, there will be no measurement for <br /> payment made for this bid item. The cost for revegetating disturbed areas must be included in <br /> the bid for closure of each mine opening/area. The CONTRACTOR must estimate how much <br /> area will be disturbed during reclamation activities. The price bid shall include all costs for labor, <br /> materials, equipment and all other items necessary for revegetation as described in these <br /> specifications. <br /> If revegetation is included as a separate bid item, revegetated areas will be measured to the <br /> nearest 0.1 acre and paid at the unit price bid for revegetation on the Bid Schedule. The price <br /> bid shall include all costs for labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary for <br /> revegetation as described in these specifications. <br /> 24 <br />
