<br />New Elk Coal Company, LLC, 122 West First St-
<br />Trinidad, CO 81082, has submitted to the Division of
<br />Reclamation, Mining & Safety a complete application far
<br />the renewal of a valid existing permit to conduct mining In
<br />Colorado for its Lorencito Canyon Mine, mining permit
<br />No. C- 1996 -084.
<br />The Lorenoito Canyon Mine is located approximately 20
<br />miles west of Trinidad, Colorado, Townships 33 and 34
<br />South, Range 66 West, Sectlon 33 and other unplatted
<br />lands on the Hill Ranch. The HIA Ranch is generally
<br />located southeast of Weston, Colorado. The mine permit
<br />area is approximately bounded by the South Fork of the
<br />Purgatolre River on the west, Highway 12 on the north,
<br />Lorencito and Bonita Canyons on the east and little
<br />Alamosa Canyon on the south. Map 2.03.4.-1 and Exhibit
<br />2 of the permit application contain the lengthy, detailed
<br />legal description. These lands can be located on the Little
<br />Pine Canyon USGS topographical 7.5 minute quadrangle
<br />map. The renewal will allow New Elk Coal Company's
<br />mining permit to be extended for five additional years
<br />after its current expiration date of November 7. 2012.
<br />A copy of the permit renewal application is available for
<br />public inspection at the Las Animas County Court House
<br />in the County Clerk's office during normal business hours
<br />and at the offices of the Division of Reclamation, Mining &
<br />Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver, CO,
<br />80203, (303) 866.3567. Written comments, objections, or
<br />a request for an informal conference on the application
<br />may be submitted to and additional information may be
<br />obtained from the Division of Reclamation, Mining &
<br />Safety at the above address and must be received by the
<br />Division within 30 days after the last publication for this
<br />notice.
