COMMENTS
This was a Complete Inspection of the Carbon Junction Mine conducted on Thursday, May 31
(mine site), and Friday, June 1 (records check), 2012. The site inspection was conducted by
Marcia Talvitie and Wallace Erickson of the Division. Skies were clear and temperatures were
warm. The general area was extremely dry, due to a lack of precipitation received during the
preceding weeks.

• Mine records were available for review at the offices of Goff Engineering in Durango. A
completed DRMS Availability of Records Form is included with this report.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures

• All areas within the permit were exceedingly dry, including Carbon Junction Canyon and the
Carbon Junction Arroyo. No standing water was observed in any of the ditches, including
the portion of the East Collection Channel adjacent to the paved haul road.
• The rip- rapped Carbon Junction channel was in good condition.
• Casings of two wells were located, extending above the ground surface. Based on Map 4 -3
(Wells and Springs) of the permit, they appear to be Well 82 -4/PW 1 (Photo 1) and Well 82-
5E 10 (Photo 2).
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
• Weed control efforts appear to be meeting with success; very few thistles were seen,
compared with previous inspections.
