TASK 2 DEMOLITION
There are two overall objectives of the demolition task. The first is to remove the corrugated
metal mine entry structures and to demolish all concrete and block wall building remnants
which remain at the Mine 4 entry and fan areas. The second is to push the rubble produced
by the demolition process against the highwall remnant.
Corrugated metal shrouding protects each of the entries at Mine 4 and the Mine 4 fan. The
entries have been sealed with concrete block walls within each entry. The corrugated metal
shrouding shall be removed at the point that they intersect with the face of the highwall or
sloughed material. This shrouding shall be removed to the main facilities area for removal
from the site by a third party.
A number of previously-existing buildings located at the Mine 4 entry area have been
demolished to the point that only the concrete floors and concrete and block wall portions of
the buildings remain. CONTRACTOR will accomplish demolition of the remaining concrete and
block wall building remnants, foundations, slabs and other such structures. The building and
facility remnants generally consist of concrete walls, floors and foundations. Some of the
buildings may be concrete block in composition. The building and facility remnants are
generally reinforced with rebar. All of the walls, floors and foundations, to a depth of three
feet below ground surface, must be demolished and removed to the base of the highwall.
A number of concrete foundations, possibly reinforced with rebar, are present along the old
conveyor corridor which extended from the Mine Bench down the face of the slope to the
Lower Bench Area. These foundations shall be removed to three (3) feet below the ground
surface during the demolition task. Rubble may be removed to either the Mine 4 or Lower
Bench backfill areas, and placed against the highwall remnant for disposal. Any void spaces
which remain at the entries between the cement block walls and the edge of the removed
corrugated metal shrouding shall be filled with rubbleized debris. The corrugated metal
shrouding must be completely filled from the concrete block walls to the outside edge of each,
and from floor to roof. Care must be exercised to ensure that no damage to the concrete
block walls occurs.
All other rubble and assorted debris will be removed from the mine bench area, conveyor
corridor and Lower Bench Area and placed at the base of the highwall so that no rubble or
debris remain at these areas except at the base of the highwalls.
The concrete and block wall materials and rubble shall be placed against the Mine 4 highwall
and shall be evenly spread at the base of the highwall along its length. These materials will
form the foundation for the backfill to be placed in Task 4 (Earth Work). All of the debris and
rubble shall be covered by a minimum of four (4) feet of back fill material during Task 4 (Earth
Work), portion of the project.
7
