COAL BASIN MINE PERMIT APPLICATION <br /> MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES , INC . <br /> CARBONDALE , COLORADO <br /> CHAPTER VII <br /> COAL LOADOUT FACILITY <br /> A. General <br /> The Mid-Continent Coal Basin mining operation , situated <br /> in western Colorado near Carbondale , produces mid-volatile <br /> coking coal for the steel industry . The mines are situated <br /> at 10 , 000 feet elevation in Coal Basin, 27 miles from the <br /> railroad loadout facility . The preparation plant is also <br /> located in Coal Basin at the 8 , 000 foot level . Clean coal <br /> is stored in bins at this point . Coal is then loaded from <br /> these bins into semitrailer trucks which haul it a distance <br /> of 2212 miles to the company rail loadout facility near Carbondale , <br /> at an elevation of 6140 feet . (See Figure 1 , Location Map) <br /> B . Operational Description <br /> The existing loadout facility is designed and equipped <br /> to handle two million tons of coal a year . The coal <br /> handling facility consists of a rail spur , access roads , a <br /> covered dump shed, a 28 , 000 ton covered stockpile , a <br /> conveyor hopper transfer , a rotary plow covered conveyor <br /> transfer belt , and an automatic train 'Loading tipple . The <br /> rail spur is maintained by Denver and Rio Grande Railroad . <br /> At the loadout facility, coal is dumped from the <br /> trucks into a hopper which feeds a conveyor belt . This belt <br /> feeds another belt which Gravels in a penthouse on top of <br /> i <br />
