The "T value" for Table Mountain Loams is 5 tons /acre /year.
Therefore, a 206 vegetative cover producing .33 tons /acre /year
would be an acceptable management level.
Active areas will be evaluated using the following criteria:
Cover Herbaceous cover shall be greater than or
equal to 906 of the reference area cover (or
other approved cover standard) . Comparisons
will be made with results valid at the 906
confidence level, using a one -sided test
with a 0.10 alpha error probability.
Production Herbaceous production shall be greater than
or equal to 906 of. the reference area
production. Comparisons will be made with
the results valid at the 906 confidence
level, using a one -sided test with 0.10
alpha error probability.
Diversity Species diversity will be deemed adequate
when the reclaimed lands consist of a
minimum of 2 cool season grasses, 2 warm
season grasses and 1 forb. These species
shall comprise at least 56, and no more than
606 relative cover and shall consist of
perennial non - noxious species.
Woody Plant Density The woody plant density standard for the
wildlife habitat (upland) is 1,000
trees /shrubs per acre. The woody plant
density standard for the wildlife habitat
(riparian) is 1,742 trees /shrubs per acre.
The Division has stipulated "seeding windows" (Stipulation 23)
for New. Elk operations. These windows are between August 15 to
November 15 and April 1 to May 15. Basin believes the optimum
seeding time is between May 15 and June 1 just prior to the summer
thunderstorms. This is based on general observation, Middle Fork
flow patterns and precipitation records of the New Elk Mine. Basin
requested and received approval from the Division to extend the
spring seeding window to June 1, rather than May 15.
