TR-23
Page 2
impounded water. The water that will be impounded by the outside Terry bulkhead has a
current SO4 concentration of approximately 600 ppm which is in the positive attack
category (attached Bureau of Reclamation tables)which would only require Type II
cement. Type II Cement + Class F flyash can be specified, according to the Bureau of
Reclamation Table II for exposure conditions into the very severe category. SGC does
not believe the requested mix modification in this TR proposal will have any measurable
effect on the longevity of the bulkhead under the exposure conditions anticipated.
Proposed Mix Design:
#/cu.
Portland Type II 720
Coarse Aggregate (5/8") 1673
Fine Aggregate 1004
Fly Ash, Class F 115
Water 324
Delay Set (4-6 hours)
The flyash is 14% by weight of the cementitious material. This is in the normal to low
category for specification of flyash quantity. Additional flyash would require a reduction
in cement and was not changed.
SGC does not propose any change to the design strength to be achieved to satisfy the
bulkhead design parameters. Design strength was specified at 3000 psi.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience whether this submittal addresses any
concerns that DMG may have regarding this submittal.
Sincerely,
Larry Perino
Reclamation Manager
