SITE RECLAMATION ACTIVITY
APRIL 1995 TO MARCH 1996
Reclamation activity during the 1995 reporting year (April 1995 to
March 1996) consisted of site cleaning, recontouring, planting of
recontoured areas, maintenance of vegetated areas, cleanup of
historic tailings, waste dump removal, water diversion
improvements, and completion of mine drainage seal construction.
In the following sections of this report, environmental activity
during the 1995 reporting year and planned environmental activity
for the 1996 reporting year is discussed on a site by site basis.
A summary of acreage disturbed and reclaimed is presented in Table
A (page 2) .
AMERICAN TUNNEL PORTAL AREA - Plate No. 1
During the 1995 reporting year, no additional acreage was disturbed
and 3 .64 acres were added to reclamation in progress. Mining
activity was suspended in July of 1991 with temporary cessation of
operation status granted as of August 1991. Final reclamation
started with the implementation of the mine drainage seal program.
AM-004 was submitted and approved during the 1995 reporting year.
Items included in AM-004 that affect this site are;
1) the addition of 1.56 acres to the permitted area in
anticipation that negotiations with the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment - Water Quality Control Division
(CDPHE-WQCD) would be successful concerning a voluntary
settlement that would allow full implementation of TR-14
(Bulkhead seals) . This additional acreage would be required
to implement the temporary diversion and treatment of Cement
Creek while the effect of fully implementing TR-14 could be
evaluated. This was a major discussion item in the
negotiations.
2) the elimination of 2. 30 acres from the permitted area.
3) the minor realignment of the permit boundary to the match
property boundary (-0.05 acres) .
4) the change in the reclamation plan to allow the conversion of
the quonset building to other uses verses removal.
