Reclamation activity during the 1991 reporting year (April 1991 to
March 1992) consisted of site cleanup, tailing pond consolidation
and tailings pond slope stabilization. Table A (page 2 )
summarizes acreage disturbed and reclaimed by area during the 1991
reporting year.
In the following sections of this report, each area is addressed,
covering environmental activity at the site during the 1991
reporting year and planned environmental activity at each site for
the 1992 reporting year.
AMERICAN TUNNEL PORTAL AREA - Plate No. 1
During the 1991 reporting year, no additional acreage was
disturbed. Reclamation work consisted of general site cleanup and
hauling of the old Lead Carbonate Tailings Pond to Tailings Pond
No. 1 at the Mayflower Mill as approved in TR -11.
The discharge water from the mine portal was treated throughout the
reporting year as required by the CDPS Permit. Biomonitoring
toxicity to Ceriodaphnia is still a problem and testing is ongoing
to determine the actual cause of toxicity. A possibility exists
that basic water chemistry play a role in the experienced toxicity
and testing is in progress to quantify what portion of the toxicity
is due to basic water chemistry. A course of action to deal with
the toxicity will be developed after the cause is determined.
Activities planned for 1992 are:
1) Annual site cleanup.
2) Continue working on the biomonitoring toxicity issue.
3) Plant vegetation on the site of the old Lead Carbonate
Tailings Pond.
TERRY TUNNEL AREA - Plate No. 2
During the 1991 reporting year, no additional acreage was disturbed
and no acreage was reclaimed. Activity at the site consisted of
general site cleanup and operation of the water treatment plant
from the 1st week of June 1991 to mid - October, 1991 as required by
the CDPS Permit. The water treatment settling ponds were cleaned
with the sludge being hauled to the Mayflower Mill Tailings Pond
No. 3.
Activities planned for 1992 are:
SITE RECLAMATION ACTIVITY
APRIL 1991 TO MARCH 1992
1) Annual site cleanup.
2) Operation of the water treatment plant as required for
treatment of the portal discharge CDPS Permit.
