Site Reclamation Activity
Page 3
Steady improvement was seen in the bio-monitoring test
results. Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests were passed the
lst Quarter of 1993. This becomes a CDPS permit enforceable
limit in June, 1993.
Activities planned for 1993 are:
1) annual site cleanup with the reduction of excess equipment in
mind. This will be accomplished through sale (either for
reuse or salvage) .
2) upgrading site drainage for stormwater flows.
3) maintenance of mine water discharge treatment for CDPS permit
compliance.
4) evaluation and maintenance of vegetation planted in 1992 on
the old Lead Carbonate Tailings Pond.
5) start of reclamation work on the waste dump site.
TERRY TUNNEL AREA - Plate No. 2
During the 1992 reporting year, no additional acreage was disturbed
and no acreage was reclaimed . Activity at the site consisted of
operation of the water treatment plant from the last week of May
1992 to mid-October 1992 . The water treatment settling ponds were
cleaned twice with the sludge being hauled to the Mayflower Mill
Tailings Pond No. 4 . Settling pond maintenance required
replacement of culverts on the discharge from the ponds . HDPE 24"
culvert was used .
Activities planned for 1993 are:
1) annual site cleanup.
2) operation of the water treatment plant as required by the CDPS
permit for the portal discharge.
SUNNYSIDE BASIN (LAKE EMMA) AREA - Plate No. 2
During the 1992 reporting year , an additional 4. 8 acres were
disturbed. This acreage was stripped of topsoil and used as a
borrow site to provide fill for backfilling of the Lake Emma hole.
This material provided the positive Acid Base Potential (ABP)
material for a perimeter drain to isolate the negative ABP material
(stockpiled from the open pit mining in the area) from groundwater
as approved in TR-06 . The hole was backfilled to grade with the
open pit waste stockpiles and additional material was stockpiled
close to the area of the hole.
