Table A (page 2)
summarizes acreage disturbed and reclaimed by area during the 1992
reporting year .
In the following sections of this report, environmental activity
during the 1992 reporting year and planned environmental activity
for the 1993 reporting year is discussed.
AMERICAN TUNNEL PORTAL AREA - Plate No. 1
During the 1992 reporting year, no additional acreage was
disturbed . Mining activity has been suspended since July of 1991 .
Reclamation work at the site consisted of:
1) amendment, fertilization and seeding of the old Lead Carbonate
Tailings Pond area. The tailings from this site were removed
and consolidated into the Mayflower Mill Tailings Pond #1
during 1991 .
Amendment consisted of 2000 lb/acre hydrated lime and 4000
lb/acre limestone.
Fertilization consisted of treatment with liquid fertilizer
(40N 45P 50K) . The seed used was the Mountain Mix attached in
the Appendix at a rate of 22 lbs/acre.
2) shipping scrap metal on the site to a recycler .
3) an energy dissipation tank and flow spreader (10" gated
irrigation pipe) was installed on Settling Pond #2 in order to
improve the water treatment system ( ie. reduce suspended
solids transport between ponds ) .
4) treating the water discharge From the mine throughout the
reporting year as required by the CDPS Permit. This treatment
includes periodic cleaning of the settling ponds with the
sludge being hauled to the Mayflower Mill Tailings Pond #4 for
disposal .
