Ideally, trees
and shrubs should be planted first to avoid disruption of the seed during these plantings. If a broadcast
method is used to place the seed mix, the surface should be lightly raked after seed broadcast to
incorporate the seed into the top 1/2 inch of soil.
* PLS = pure live seed
** Rate is doubled from NRCS rates per recommendation to account for broadcast method.
SCHEDULE
It is anticipated that the New Access Road will be utilized throughout the mining process. Therefore,
reclamation of the road will not occur until mining activities are complete. Timing of the reclamation
efforts for the New Access Road should take into account the time necessary for plant and seed
establishment. Grading operations to reclaim the New Access Road should not start if there is not ample
time to allow the new vegetation that is part of this Reclamation Plan to begin growing and, in the case
of the seed mix, allow for a proper stand to occur before snow is anticipated.
Typically, the best time to plant is in the late spring (after the spring thaw) or in early fall (late August to
early October). Plantings of shrubs and trees will take between four and six weeks to establish, while the
seed mix will take between two and three months to grow to a good stand.
