June Monthly/2"d Quarter 1999 Report
Page 2
Sunnyside submitted completion certifications in October, 1997.
Included with this report are site pictures for all of the"A List" projects except the
Ransom Tunnel which has not changed from previous pictures. Also included are
monitoring results from the Longfellow/Koehler project.
• Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation—Alkaline Solution Injection
This project was not active in June of 1999 or the 2"d Quarter although 0.07 Mgallons of
water were pumped through the Terry Tunnel bulkhead to lower the water level in the
Terry Tunnel settling ponds in order to maintain a no discharge status.
The bulkhead and tunnel was inspected on June 28,1999, pressure gage read and a sample
was taken of the water behind the bulkhead before pumping was started. The pressure
gage reading was 11.5 psi. During the 3`d Quarter pressure gages in the American Tunnel
and Terry Tunnel will be checked against each other by reading them on the same day.
The results from the bulkhead sample have not been received and will be submitted with
the July report. The bulkhead and tunnel inspection did not reveal any conditions of
concern.
The water pool pH, at the American Tunnel bulkhead, was 4.62 and the bulkhead gage
read 395 psi at the end of June. This would indicate that a significant rise in the mine
pool occurred since the end of May(46 feet). This can be attributed to spring inflow.
The new elevation of the mine pool should be above the Terry Tunnel bulkhead creating
a single combined mine pool. The Terry Tunnel bulkhead and tunnel will now be
inspected quarterly when accessible and Sunnyside will continue to monitor the
American Tunnel bulkhead and mine pool for indications that equilibrium has been
reached.
"B List" Projects
• Columbus Mine Portals—Mine Waste Dumps
• London Mine Portals—Waste Dumps
Work, permitting or arrangement for access are not planned until it becomes evident that
the work plans for these projects require implementation.
